Got my Easy Brackets last week from Eddy. There was some confusion because the Easy Bracket instructions say to use the two front fender mounting holes and their web site says to use the two rear most holes. In case anyone else runs into this, I thought I post this to save some trouble.

Turns out their web site is right - use the two rear most holes. This may seem strange if you already have the Triumph brackets as they use the front two holes, but if you look at the Triumph brackets you'll see the the mounting holes for the bags are offset back from the bracket mounting holes.

I used the existing top two holes on the Triumph bags - they are the same width as the Easy Bracket holes. I attached the bags to the brackets with these holes and then used a marker to mark new holes on the Easy Brackets that corresponded with the two lower holes on the bags. This way, I did not need to drill new holes in the bags. Doing this places the bags a bit lower and an inch or so farther back. The bags still clear the pipe by an inch - some of this do to an increased angle using the Easy Brackets.

Lastly, using the Easy Brackets places the bags a bit closer to the bike and the key was a bit hard to use because of the folded leather at the top of the bags. So, I placed 1/4 inch worth of spacers between to the bags and brackets and problem solved. Also, on one side, the brackets didn't slip on easily. Turns on that the Tbird wasn't quite symmetrical so I added a washer to one of the mounting bolts, which lined up the slots and problem was solved.

Picture from the top. Easy Bracket on left side of motorcycle (right side in the picture), standard bracket on the other side:

Note if you used the existing holes, there will be a sizable gap between the Easy Bracket and the bag because the standard mounting points on the Triumph bags protrude out.

Good write up Engage - Thanks.

I too received my Easy Brackets from Eddy a week ago - I thought it would be a long job to install them... How wrong I was!

As you quite rightly pointed out:
- The included instructions with my brackets was also WRONG!
- I also had a 'sticky' belt side mount! After a few wiggles and soft thumps it now goes on ok.
- like yourself, I too find it a bit of a tight squeeze to get the key into the lock due to the 'overhang' from the saddlebag's lifting cover.

All in all - I'm VERY VERY VERY happy with them!
Thanks once again Eddy for sharing your GREAT ADVICE and experience.

Here's some images from my set up:

The spacers solved the key issue nicely. Thick rubber gaskets or nylon spacers will work. If you still have some "stickiness" try putting a washer behind one of the mounting bolts. The slots the brackets slide into are thin so both bolts must be on the same plane. On one side of the fender, I had no issues, but the other required use of a washer to get the bolts on the same plane.

Other than that, the brackets are real nice. Used them yesterday for a run to the store. Plopped the bags on, went to the store, came home, took em off. Nice.

You have to use the two FRONT holes if you have the OEM passenger backrest because the backrest partially covers the rear one. But it's a different bracket. You have tell them if you have the backrest or not when ordering.

Thank you very much for the detailed summary and photos, EnGage. Very good info and something I'm gonna do for next season.

Thanks, EnGage! (Found the thread. :)

I can see by your photos (and Birdy's) that the plane of the brackets will have the bags close to the blinkers but not hitting them. Excellent stuff.

Cheers. Much appreciate the help, as always.

All the information on this fairly old thread was very useful to me today as I installed my new Triumph bags on my bike with Easy Brackets from Fast eddy.

I have ended up with the same setup as Engage and I am fairly happy but I really would like the bags to mount an inch or two more forward. Using the rear two fender bolts puts the bags back an inch or more and I think the downsides of this setup are the following

1) The cut out for the shock is really not used in this setup as the bag sits backwards of the shock. It's a kinda waste to loose carrying capacity by having the cutouts and then not use them. I also think a set up covering the shock looks better in the overall bike profile.

2) Moving the bags back and inch or so hides the rear turn signals from anyone beside or beside you and slightly behind you. I would prefer that cagers beside me could see my turn signals.

I did a quick mockup and it seems to me that if the Easy Brackets mounted in the front two fender holes (as the instructions say they should) the bags would pretty well line up the same as on the Triumph OEM brackets.

Has anyone had success mounting the Easy Brackets to the back two fender bolts? If so did it require a longer bolt?

Any thoughts or solutions would be appreciated.

Mine are on the back two bolts. Do you mean the front two bolts as in the two towards the front of the motorcycle?

I hear you concerning the turn signal and pondered this, but with the brackets on the front two bolts, the bag would be way too far forward unless you bolt the brackets to very front of the bags. If you look at my first picture you see that the Triumph brackets bolt to the front two bolts, BUT the bracket itself extends well back of the second bolt.

I believe the Easy Brackets used with the quick release sissy bar mount in the front two holes. Can someone with this setup post a picture or two?

It would be nice if Triumph would engineer a bike-specific quick release bracket, but for now, the EBs do the trick.

Engage, I have that setup. I'll take a few photos after I get back from the bike show today.

Thanks Fordster, but can you post a side view and a top view that shows the whole saddle bag. I'm curious were the bags end up in relation to the bike and the brackets.

thanks.

G'day all from New Zealand, got my TBird on Dec 30th and have been trying to figure out if I should get the "Edge " brackets or "Easy Brackets"? I have the Triumph Cissy bar on the bike most of the time. I'm erring toward the Easy brackets as they have a specific model to fit, and considering I will have to freight then form the U.S.of A I want to get it right. I'm planning on using Triumph bags, again as to import from the States is too costly and any potential warranty issues would be ugly. Can any one add some advice ? Cheers.

I purchaced the Edge bags (110) as well as the brackets.
Is there a simple "recipe" for the washers and spacers that came with the kit,to mount the keepers on the two rear fender bolts.
I'm sure I can experiment ,but if someone has found the desired combo and could save me some time and aggravation,(I know how these quick easy jobs can turn in to tool throwing mahem He He) I sure would appriciate it.
Thanks, Dutch

Fordster, Did you received other than standerd Easy Bracket Docking Posts? Your Docking Posts look different then Birdy's
The Bird's front bolt is 10mm and the two others 8mm. Did you make an adjustment

I stated when I ordered that I had the OEM backrest. By doing that, they provide the bolts required for using the front 2 docking points. Mine bolted right on, no problems. And yea, I recall that the bolts are a different size.. can't remember which was which but whatever they provided worked. I would actually prefer to use the back bolts because on my setup the bags are cantilevered quite a bit, but the OEM backrest mounting bracket covers up the rear bolt. I haven't had a problem, but I try to keep most of the weight towards the front of the bags.
