The soapy steel wool and autosol is great on alloy truck rims so would also be good on exhausts as Bender says

A bit of Ol Fashoined "Kerosene" or some Turps/ ( for the Yanks. Turpentine) (that's if Ya not applying it to the Cats Arse)

Then use some "Californian Purple" and they will be all good again.or just use some Californian Purple

if you need to rub tar marks off use a piece of soft timber such as pine. It will get rid of the tar etc. and not scratch the chrome or metal surface.

Maybe some of these. Gunk has a pretty good reputation. I'm not sure about pinewood or Turps whatever the hell that is. I use Mother's stainless steel and metal polish or plain old auto wax will take off the tar if there is not too much of it.

Well thank's fella's The kero worked great on the tar, it just dissolved it away
The bugs are a different story.they are really baked onto the engine pipe's .the autosol shines em up real pretty ,but I still think I want to remove them I don't like the sound of steel wool no matter how many o's you put in front of it. My thumbnail behind the soapy wash sponge seems to be the only sucsess so far ,but my hand start's to cramp after 3 hour's or so. I might try the pinewood idea

Use a penny. Softer than chrome, harder than baked on bugs.
