Agree 100%. Even with exhaust mods at highway speed I get to hear everthing that is happening, The ( custom made plugs by Earmould ) just cut down the Wind Noise.

Hello Swagger,

Can only recommend Alpine Motorcycle Earplugs as they are vented to allow for equalisation to suit Motorcycle & Road noise.

Moreover, music sounds great through them.

I tried those Alex, but have gone back to disposals due to having trouble getting them out sometimes. Personal thing

PS. Mine are for wind noise too Dave (and no I don't fart that loudly, apparently!)

Same here as all my gals have stock exhaust. I'm always experimenting with different earplugs since I use helmet speakers for FM and GPS. As a compromise between noise reduction and being able to hear my helmet speakers , I use the NoNoise motorsport noise filtering earplugs. They are also very comfortable and do not irritate my ears on long riding days.

The plugs are OK for about an hour but I find that they seem to create a pressure in my head that makes me very tense. Does anyone else get that or is it just me?

I also have custom made ones to wear at the rifle and demo ranges. They're vented to relieve pressure.

That would mean Dave would have to shift out of 2nd gear.

No my friend, it's not the pipes. Still have cat box and short TORs - which aren't much different than stock.
All wind noise. Thought I'd try earphones and an iPod one time (in the middle of nowhere); couldn't hear anything but wind midway thru 3rd gear.
That's LOUD.

I still have the factory exhaust and a slightly larger windscreen then the factory screen, yet I can hear surrounding noises, and that's with my radio on and turned up.So either you guys are deaf, ,or I have excellent hearing.Of course, when you're just a kid like myself, ,your hearing is usually pretty good. But when ya get old like you guys are, then naturally, your hearing isn't gonna be as good as the hearing that us kids have. But then again,if ya ride WITHOUT any wind screen, then not only will your hearing be effected, but you also risk facial,or more importantly, eye injury from debris and or bugs. And I learned that lesson the hard way back in 1970 when a moth hit me in my left eye,and that was with glasses on.From that day forward,I have ALWAYS driven with some kind of a windscreen.

I am a musician (hobby) and for many years spent way to much time in small rooms with loud monitors etc around me, ears took a beating, doctor told me if I expose them to much more hearing loss would be greater later on so I wear plugs when I have the shorty on and nothing if I am wearing the full face, I also have a screen but I look right over it so I still get allot of wind noise , and with the full face I have speakers in it so I plug me IPOD in and I can listen to some tunes, LOL although louder then they ought to be I am sure. Also helps with the hogslayer pipes, they are not crazy loud but can get there from time to time.

The reason for wearing earplugs is not exhaust noise, it's wind noise. Wind noise, especially in 3/4 and 1/2 helmets, exceeds the 85 dB limit for sustained noise. As someone who suffers from tinnitus (ringing in the ears), I genuinely wish I would have listened to the warnings at an earlier age.

I wear a half helmet, but,I also have windscreen [as you know from old past posts Todd ] and I don't have tinnitus. However, now that you mention it,on occasion I do get a pretty loud ringin in my ears, but that's when the wife is either yellin at me,or talkin about me!! So maybe I SHOULD invest in a set of those ear plugs too.

Hi Todd ! Good to hear from ya. Hows that cute lil' pup doin? Post a pic if you can, i'd like to see the little pooch now that he's grown up.
As to wind noise, thats the main reason alright, tho i also like the fact they drown out engine noise. Don't have a lot of that lately but still it'll never be dead quiet w/o plugs. I can't even ride w/o them anymore. When i was a kid i never had wind noise issues because almost i never wore a helmet ! Thats what makes it loud....the wind in the helmet gets amplified. W/o a helmet it just sorta blows by your ears and isn't even loud.

Went looking for a Pinlock shield for my Airoh helmet, had to order it from Pinlock in Rotterdam, so I thought I'd try their new earplugs while I was at it.
Pinlock earplugs: Link
6 weeks later, a package arrived - damaged - in a bag from the Royal Mail. Earplugs survived the trip but shield was gone. Oh well...

Anyway, these ear plugs fit flush, they're not uncomfortable (feel about the same as foam plugs do), and you can actually have a conversation while wearing 'em.
I don't like the disconnected feeling Swagger alluded to, either. Constantly putting 'em, taking 'em out, forgetting 'em, ear plugs are a hassle. Foam plugs are fiddly, silicone comes loose in cold weather, both make me feel isolated from my surroundings since they block all sound. These might do well, if they can block wind noise as claimed; haven't had a chance to ride at freeway speeds with them yet.

Plan on tossing the case they come in, tho; it's made of styrofoam.

Nice ride today, good mix of freeway speeds and back roads, earplugs did quite well. They don't eliminate all wind noise, but reduce it to a harmless level. Can still hear motor well enough at all speeds, no effect on pressure (went down/up about 2500-3000-ft.), they're comfortable and stay put. Was pretty cold, wearing a balaclava and half-helmet, earplugs were no problem. I like 'em. Sufficient protection without being totally deaf, they're part of my kit from now on. All I need is a little carry case.

Sounds much the same as my disposables. I have tried the Motosafe Alpine ones, they worked ok but I found them a bit fiddly, then lost one of the tiny inserts so went back to the Laser Lites which I have been using on and off now for a number of years.

Started raining as soon as you posted that, Swagger. ;-)

Back to say the fine people at Pinlock actually sent another shield to replace the one lost by Royal Mail. Certainly above and beyond, says a lot about Pinlock.
Earplugs are designed well, they stay in place, are comfortable and reduce wind noise while allowing conversation at gas stations and stops with fellow riders.

Variable, huh, sounds like a plan. I have to say, the way earplugs are installed makes a huge difference; pulling your ear back with one hand while inserting with the other works much better than just stuffing 'em in one-handed.
