I cannot use search on this site
I must be a bit thick or something but no matter what title or search criteria I enter I never get any results. Obviously I am doing something wrong. Can anyone offer me some advice?

Ok Gents, it looks like on some browsers it doesn't come up with the default date range and on some it does. When a date range does show, it will search within that range. When it doesn't show up, it searches through all 92.000 posts spanning the five past years for the specific keyword ... at which point it will sometimes "timeout".
We have optimized (speeded up) the code for the search function and it is much faster than before but will still have to limit date ranges to around 2 years of data. So, those wishing to drill down over 2 years will have enter a new date range, as the case may be.
We haven't done the default 2 year date range limit yet as we wish to see which is optimal, so in the meantime, please do it manually (i.e. limit your search date range to up to 2 years).
Is it timing out on you or do you always get "no results"? What happens?
