| | Posted : 07 May 2013 - 22:43 Post title : Tire sizes | | | In another thread the Pirelli night dragon was mentioned, I looked up 200/50ZR17 but the closest at motorcycle superstore is 200/55VR17. I assume the 200 is the width, is the 50 or 55 the height? will the 55 make any noticeable difference?
I am looking at needing a rear tire before a 800 mile ride in August, I should have over 5000 miles on the stock rear by then.
Thanks for the input

Tyre profile as a percentage of width the ratio is 55% of 180mm. This works out as 99mm. Or in our case 50% of 200mm

I think that would mean the tire would be 3/4" larger overall diameter (10mm higher profile) than the 200/50/17 which would effectively mean the gearing would be a little higher? Has anyone tried this on the TBird?

Sounds like the 55 may be the way to go, I am really leaning toward this Pirelli but I am not ready to buy yet so I will keep reading to see what else everyone comes up with.
Thanks!!

I think you will find that the general consensus is that NONE of them last long enough.

My Concours riding friends are all ga-ga over the Michelin Road Pilot 3 tires and they don't make one 200/50

I see a 190/55 listed. It may be be closer in size to the 200/50 when mounted .
... BTW, I still haven't heard anything from Clear View.

Same here John. I fitted Cobras both Front & Rear and have don't about 3000 Klms and I am wrapped in them. AVON + Good Ol Pommie Tyre Opps that right they are Cooper which is a really good tyre anyway.and that certainly had an influence when I went that way.

| | Posted : 08 May 2013 - 15:34 Post title : Re: Tire sizes (Re: Xfarmer) | | | They do make the Road Pilot in 200/50-17 Z tire. There is not a front tire in 19" for our bikes so there is going to be a mis match on models like with other bikes.
Some Concours riders only got 7000 miles and a few have gotten over 12000. If I had know I could fit them I would have put them on last week and I'll try them next time. Gives me motivation to see how fast I can wear out these 880s.
Maybe some will read this and try out the Road Pilots?
No guarantees how long these will last on the Thunderbird.
Better that the rider and motorcycle have the long life than the tires.
Clearview seems like a real slack organization. I sent them the shield weeks and weeks ago and have not heard a peep from them.

Avons are made by Cooper? If that is true then it's Avon's for me, I am looking at the Avon AV72 also.

They sure are, made in a facility that takes up half of the town of Melksham, not sure if the bike tyres are made there though.
