Ok guys and gals this is about passenger happiness. I have the dual touring seat and backrest and passenger floorboards. My wife is comfortable until we hit intersatate speeds. (65-70 mph) That's when the wind buffeting takes over. I just installed a Cee Bailley windshield which falls exactlly where it should for me. Right below my nose. Works great for me. I had the Triumph mid-size on at first but that gave me too much noise. I also have the Triumph lower deflectors. So has anyone solved this buffeting affect for thier passenger? If I can't fix this, I will have to find a different bike! Seriously.

No screen on my Storm. And my better half has no problems at any speed. I guess I take up all the blast, and she sits comfortably behind.

Same here but have the flyscreen, she never complains about buffeting.

I think larger lowers might help a bit as I think so much buffetting comes from the dirt air around the engine and forks.

I also have Cee Bailey Screen. Stock lowers are worthless. Make them as large as you can and still miss hitting the dresser bars or exhausts.

Best help is to buy the wife her own bike!

No screen is not an option. Been there done that. Don't like it. Not at 70 mph.

My screen is roughly the height of the bridge of my nose. I hate looking through a screen. It's the Triumph screen and I definitely get more buffeting than I like, but my passengers haven't complained at all. I don't know for sure, but it may have to do with the fact that I'm 6'0" and my wife is about 5'4".

... Not a perfect solution, but you may need a shorter passenger.

As other comments Tneagle
Have several 3000+ mile tours with wife as pillion and she hasn't found it a problem.
I to have a Flyscreen fitted (national cycles) and comfortably cruise between 90-100mph (where roads permit)
Neither of us have experienced buffeting to be a problem.

Maybe in one more year there will be a Clearview windshield for you to test out.

Not very impressive service from them.

Hello,

Always travel two up with a Triumph Summer Screen, and travel long distances, all with no buffeting to rider and passenger.

Have used a Lamina Lip which totally removes any wind for both of us.

But personally, we prefer some wind without the buffeting.

I'm starting to wonder if the mid-size was too large and then I made it worst for my wife by going bigger. Sounds like all you guys with the small fly screens and summer are in better shape. BTW, I'm 5'6" and my better half is 5' 2". I had the summer screen on my Speedmaster and got blasted on the highways. It was so bad for my wife she thought about jumping off....while we were traveling!

Could some of it be from the style of helmet she wears ?

Pretty much the same here. No screen but 6'6" and my wife is 5'2/3". She has to pop her head out every once in awhile just to get some air. I'm not sure she'd even notice if it started raining.

That's why I have never bothered to buy her proper wet weather gear.

I think that 70mph may be to slow, going faster may solve the issue, that way the missus wont want to ride with you ever again, therefore it wont be an issue any more?.... but seriously I dont use a screen but going from a half face to a full face helmit made all the difference for the wifes comfort

Wind buffeting has never been a problem for my Significant Other: I have no screen on the T'bird, but she's got one on her Tiger 800.

Get her a bike of her own!

maybe you should take the flyscreen off, a bit of buffeting might keep her awake

mine has a similar set up to mat, maybe a slightly bigger screen to mat but small compared to most and just checked with the lass... no buffeting

so either eat a lot of pies or try a smaller screen

Ok...no screen, fly screen no buffeting. What type of helmets are you all wearing. There has to be more to this equation. I've ridden without screens and hate it after I get above 55 mph. Oh and BTW, she does have her own bike. A Kawasaki Ninja. That's not the point. The problem is wind buffeting on my bike at higher speeds when she rides with me. The only real possible solutions I've heard has to do with changing the size of the lowers and maybe going back to the mid-size sceen. In which case I will need to change helmets.

I wear a scorpion Exo Flip front. I get the wind pressure on the helmet and have to tilt my head forward slightly when I get over 100mph - it sort of stops the strap blocking the wind pipe. But I get no buffeting and the wife often drops to sleep on the longer tours. Niether of us have headaches from riding the Bird for the last 28k miles.
I have tried bikes with full screens, the first being a HD in the states but that never got fast enough to blow the flies off. The second time was a rocket tourer on a test ride, the buffeting started at 60 and I couldn't shake it off even up to 130. Handed it back with a headache. No screen is not for me, tall screen had its problems. Totally happy with the flyscreen.

I get buffeting, wind hits me on the helmet (Shark Evo flip) but it doesn't bother me too much, my wife has a Shoe full face and only cops it if she leans outside my profile.

I have just ordered a 7" headlamp, so hoping that when I fit that I can run the flyscreen higher and maybe get the wind over my head, maybe.

I do find that with speeds over 120 kph (75mph) things get better, less buffeting and smoother, but can't stay there and keep my license.
