| | Posted : 05 May 2013 - 18:22 Post title : Greetings to the flock | | | First time poster long time lurking in the background and reading all about the Bird. I'm curious if anyone has every dressed up the Bird for touring similar to the 1998-2001 era Honda Valkyrie Interstate. I'm particularly interested in the passenger seating and top box. I've posted a link below because, well I'm a rookie and I'm not familiar with posting a picture on the forum. Thanks in advance.

Both are better than standard especially if you are going to be taking passengers.

I don't have a top box, but one of the things I love about the T-Bird is that I can go from this:

[IMG] In about 4 minutes. And that's if it takes me 2 minutes to find the right size allen wrench to change the seat.
Quick release shield, long haul seat, quick release backrest w/rack and Hardstreet bags w/easy brackets. Nelson Rigg luggage.

try this version of it -
Along the same lines I gotta admit I am even digging the new Gold Wing these days. - but my t-bird is still brandy new - and rides like a top - so I won't be swapping it out anytime soon. I've been working on a touring setup recently - see the thread "Oh yeah - Ordered New Luggage Rack and Topcase". Have not posted an update in a while as it is still a work in progress. The short story is, I found a guy who makes a flat 12 gauge steel luggage rack for the t-bird that hooks into the frame, can support a large top case, and is compatible with the easy brackets and Hardstreet slims (you need four of a kind docking posts vs. a set of 2 wide and 2 narrow). I even still have room to mount a Protac rider backrest on the front two fender bolts in the future.
I ordered up the Givi E370 but didn't like it - so I returned it (God love Revzilla) and swapped it for a V47 Tech.
Eventually, will be adding an LED brake light kit and backrest for the case too (oh yeah - and an OEM long haul pillion seat too). Should be sweet. Will post pics when the topcase is mounted.

I like the style of the wrap around back rest on the Valk for the pillion. I 've seen something similar to the Valk for sale as a low cost aftermarket design. We're talking less than $300 so I assume my first instinct is correct, probably a low quality item

Yeah. I briefly toyed with the idea of finding a used OEM truck from some other manufacturer including a Harley Tour Pak (there's a guy on here from Argentina that has one fitted which looks great) or something like an Ultra trunk which I suppose could include the seat...? Even looked around for other options e.g. something compatible with any number of euro or japanese touring rigs - but of course the Harley stuff is even more ridiculously expensive than Givi and in the end I went with something that I figured would mount up easier (without mods).
Let us all know what you find.

Look for Eskerinola and click on "View". First photo has a nice sideshot of his setup. He's got what might be the best touring setup, including hard bags, screen, a trunk with pillion backrest, etc. Who knows, he may have Air Conditioning, heat and stereo system.
Good luck, Jamie
