I have one on my Tiger - but not the Bird.

What's really bad is when it's the grassy kind of muck that goes between the cover grill and the actual radiator!
You need tweezers to get them out - or remove the outer cover...

Leave the pork pies for now - get the sausage rolls while they're hot!

Does that cover clip off or is it on bolts (must go and look). I have the same problem.Woudn't want to drill my mudguard to fit one, I shall just stay out of muddy fields.

well its the stuff from the muck spreader was all over the road and its there like glue between the cover and the rad.
but to answer matt i did read a while ago about some extenders that used 3m products to attatch to the guard so no drilling was needed but i had a thrux at the time and its guard was far too small to bother with so i didnt take a reference - kicking myself, although i think it was in a MCN article. still lookin through my back copies. if push comes to shove I do have unlimited access to a laser cutter so if i can source some appropriate material i might try to cut some, also its finding the product with enough adhesion to keep the extender in place, 3m might have the answer

There's just one big flat hex screw on the bottom holding the frame and screen in place, with a slot on top. I had to take the frame off when I thought I dropped a little hex bolt down inside, putting on my aux lights, so I took it into the kitchen for a good washing. Of course, I later found the missing bolt on the garage floor. -j.

nah,
drill them had mine on for ages and trouble free.

did not use the silver alu ones that come with the extender. I bought some anodised black self tappers 5p each look almost invisible on the black mudguard and the ammount of shiiii it keeps off the rad is fantastic.

Any possibility of pics? I'm interested but none of the links show it installed on a T-Bird. I'd really like to see how well it matches up. I have a 2012 T-Bird, I assume the fenders are the same for the last couple of years.

Thanks Thatch and fellas. Yeah I hear you, I hate putting this type of stuff on and it's not like bags, sissy bars etc where you can get rid of them in two minutes. I can't believe that I have just fitted dresser bars and highway pegs, but I need some position variation on long runs Mind you it's only four bolts, two nuts and they are off.

My next question is do any of the fellas with one know if they help keep the exhaust and side covers clean when the roads are wet.I went on a ride recently with a bunch of bikes including a new Softail Heritage Deluxe and it was almost spotless after the run, my bird looked like a piece of crap followed by hours of cleaning.

They help keep a small patch at the base of the rad from being grit blasted and thats it, never had a front mudguard as bad as this one, did a run to Middlesbro a few week ago, wish i'd taken a photo. the only parts not covered in a thick layer of crap were the parts that I covered. Coud'nt believe it when I saw the TOP of the tank being covered in shite. Its the first time that i have used a pressure washer on any of my bikes but it was the only way to shift that much mud. I'm keeping a lookout on E bay for a mudguard that i can adapt.

I fitted one, but used a product called CT1, basically an excellent mastic type stuff, but I tend to use it for everything, to fix the fender extender in position. Just 'glued' it in place, left overnight with a couple of clothes pegs holding in position, and never had any problems.

But what I will say is they really help keep the radiator clean.

Thanks for the pics stripygitface , those don't look bad at all. Probably the best thing for me is I have a Blackbird so no real color match problem there. (not that yours don't look good, they do) Since folks mentioned all the crap they have to clean off I now have a better understanding on why the top of my tank, dash, inside windshield and my helmet shield get so much road gunk when riding in or after bad weather.

The front fender being the length that it is at the back allow the gunk to spray up on/around the entire bottom half of the rad which gets into the wind stream, that blows up and around the tank. That seems to create that wonderful vortex effect (where the buffeting starts) hence, bigger mess on tank top, inside windshield and me. Simplistic explanation but makes sense, guess I'll order one and try it out. An inexpensive way to make the ride a little cleaner in bad weather. Thanks.

I rode up to my local dealer today (Taunton) just for a blast & saw a america with a much larger front fender almost the size of a fatboys, I bet that would keep a lot more shit & grime off
Personaly I would be buying something simular tomorrow if it was available

Stripy was this the actual "fender extender" product you put on your bike ?

Was the TBird a model they already sell or do we have to get something close ?

Thanks
