I just got a quote from my dealer for $1400 to do the 24,000 mile check up. Is it me or do these birds cost more the longer you have one? This service includes all fluids changed, gass lines replaced, stearing head bearrings repacked and the whole bike gone over.

Wholly Crap that's way to high. Repacking the front steering head bearing I'd do myself, if you're mechanically inclined. Changing fluids aren't difficult at all. Parts are less then $300.00. Can't see $1100.00 in labor though. I'd call around and see what other Stealerships are offering.

Did you notice the lube being applied? Not referring to the Bearings.

If ya have a friend who is mechaincally inclined, get together with him so you can do the service together. In the process, you can pick up a few pointers and possibly do it yourself the next time as a lot of it is just commen sense. Dave!!!

Ah obviously the stealer ship has confused you with some one who really doesn't like money ha ha, the above advice is good advice, these bikes are not hard
to service & I would defiantly not be lining the stealers pockets.
good luck, ask any questions on here & i'am sure you'll get the answer your looking for.

And just how many shares in the dealer do you get for that.

They are going to rob you blind.

If it's out of warrenty, take it to a smaller repair shop - all that stuff is run of the mill work.

Actually,it belongs to my neighbor and she's not too happy. The car is an excellent automobile. It's all these little maintenance items required by Volvo to keep the factory warantee valid. They start out with a few basic things and charge a nominal fee, plus parts. On the next service, they do the same things again plus a few more, plus parts, and the bill doubles. Then the next service, all of the previous things plus a few more, plus parts, and again the bill doubles and so forth and this just keeps goin on and on.There's just no end to it.Her husband is bull shit over it commenting that he'll have paid for that car several times over, assuming they keep it that long.lol lol Oh ya! I forgot to tell ya that the stealer is required to use only GENUINE Volvo parts [excuse me] which are marked up about 2000%.And it ain't fuckin funny ether.

My wife drives a 2010 Jeep Liberty which I service and costs me for parts only, which I do NOT buy from the stealer or pay premium price for.In fact,I just brought it back this past Monday for a warantee issue with the transmission. They had it for exactly two hours and called me to tell me that there was nothin wrong with it."THEY ALL DO THAT" which is what they tried to tell me."RIGHT!!" If it wasn't a warantee issue, they would have fixed it and CHARGED me a small fortune for the favor. To make a long story short,I fixed it myself yesterday.

But I gotta tell ya! What frosts my balls the most is when these stealers, aka "THIEVES", try to blow smoke up my ass. And I've already called and filed a complaint regarding the excellent smoke screen they tried to give me.Now if that was anybody else, they would have accepted the stealer's explanation, and continued diving it which may or may not have made it thru the warantee period. Then, that same stealer, would have hit em for a new trans, [five grand], because the small problem
was now a big problem and non repairable. So again,it ain't fuckin funny.

And I can't tell ya how many of these horror stories I've heard over the years from people.I understand that these stealers are in business to make money, but when is enough ,enough!

Now doesn't that little story sound familar regarding your Triumphs??? Dave!!!

We have 'Block exemption' over here. You can have your new car serviced by an independant garage and not lose your warrenty. You do have to have like for like parts fitted but the labour is half the cost. Mrs1600's service garage does a few new Mercs, were the owners got pissed with the bills, they pay a third of the dealer cost. Non of my Volvo's have been anywhere near a dealer. I shall do the same with my Bird.

Hope you have good blood pressure Dave. All the dealers do this, cars, motorcycles whatever. I've caught dealers lying to me on many occasion over the years and even when you call them out it does nothing to curtail the practice. It's a numbers game to them. The biggest impact now with these types of business practices is social networking, many dealers are on Facebook now as an advertising tool, well they really hate it when you tag their Facebook fan page with factual information regarding their business practices. As long as you don't slander or defame anybody there is damn little they can do and it does get their attention. Outside of that move on to another dealer or independent shop that specializes in your flavor of ride. I have a small specialty shop that does my 2011 Subaru maintenance much cheaper than the dealer and so far has not even come close to doing unnecessary work. I usually have to tell them to do things they don't think is necessary, but I'm just anal about some things.

Dave, I'm aware and I agree.

When we had the GT500 the early models 07/08's had a clutch problem. They used a cast iron flywheel and due heat, caused to warped. This naturally causing abnormal wearing of the throw out bearing and clutch plate. Ford Motor Co put out a service bulletin but never made it a recall.

My luck had it I was driving down the I-25 and shifted into 6th and nothing but it revved to 5000K and wouldn't lock up. I belabored it to the dealer and they told me, "$2800.00 for a new clutch because clutch plates aren't warranted after 12 mo," of course this included the new clutch package from the 10/11 model. I freak en came unglued. I called FMC customer service and quoted the service bulletins. They called the stealership and authorized 100% repair and replacement with the newer 10 & 11 clutch which fixed the problem.

Unbenonced to most GT 500 owners, Ford Dealers were charging their 07-08 GT500 customers $2800 a pop for the repairs. Siteing normal wear and tear of the clutch. This was after they knew the problem existed with both models. I posted it on the GT500 forum with the service bulletins to inform owners of their blatant misinformation and BS.

What the stealerships should have done instead of usin Ford's el cheapo clutch package, was go to an aftermarket performance clutch package and flywheel. I've done that on a few factory muscle cars and the problem went away. Dave!!!

I trust them as well, but in the past they would try to keep the major services under $700. They charged me just under $700 for my 12,000. You should talk with one of the Dave's.

I have 24,000 on the bird now, but I'm either going to do all the maintenance myself and wait until 36,000 to have the valves checked again or have the big block kit done over the winter. In fact, that's another option for you. They quoted just over $1600 for the big block and that's not much more than their $1400 service quote.
