In the June issue of RoadBike, on page 80. They have a write up of Carbon Build up in a Thunderbird engine. Bottom line is the guy spent 32 hours tearing apart, and rebuilding the engine. When all he had to do is use a bottle of carbon cleaner in the gas tank.

According to the MSD sheet- material safety data

"Sea Foam is composed solely of three specially blended petroleum oils each having specific functions such as lubricating, cleaning or moisture control. There are no other chemicals (not even color dyes) included in the formulation. Being of the same basic petroleum chemistry as the motor oils and gasoline you already use in your engine, Sea Foam is completely compatible with all engine components, fuels, lubricants and other additives you may have in your engine. Sea Foam will not damage gaskets or seals, and will not interact in a negative way with motor oil or fuel, or the additives used in them."

Seafoam consists of:
Pale Oil 40-60%
Naphtha 20-25%
IPA 10-20%

It's been around for decades and I have been using it for many years-I use it in about every 3rd tank of fuel on my bikes.

I'm currently on a boat that idles all the time and the diesels are glazed now and the oil seal of the compression ring is stuck and it's leaking oil but not even running. Blowing out the carbon is not a myth and it needs to be done.

So the next time you smoke that yuppie in a BMW your doing your bike a favor.

I have used Techron as well. My experience with the products if with engines that have sat for long periods of time with ethanol laced gasoline. I have no experience with the carbon buildup personally.
