| | Posted : 28 Mar 2012 - 15:31 Post title : Sharing the road with scary 4-wheelers.... | | | When it comes to Texas, you always think of massive, speeding pickups barreling down on you and your TBird, inexplicably trying to get a real up-close and personal look at your back tire. Oddly, since I've been riding, I've had my scariest and most-head-scratching encounters with, of all things, Toyota Corollas
Usually, it's not just the garden-variety "plain" Corolla, but the vaunted Corolla "S", complete with spoiler (does anyone know why you would put a spoiler on a Corolla in the first place - but that's a different question, I suppose). I don't know what it is about them that causes their owners to drive like they are on a speedway, but it seems that - around me, anyway - they are always running seriously late for something.
A close second is the amazing Honda Odyssey minivan. I guess soccer moms have places to be as well
Oh well, could just be coincidences. My riding buddies laugh at me every time we come up on or get near a Corolla or Odyssey, and I leave plenty of space. Actually, I never noticed how bad so many car drivers were til I bought the Tbird.
Just wondering if anybody else has experienced their own unexpected pattern of vehicle, or vehicle types, that seem to consistently present problems......?
Jeff

Most people around my parts give extra leeway to motorcycles, but when I am being tailgated its generally a teenage girl who is either on her phone, or putting makeup on.

Oh well, probably just my imagination working too hard.

Hiya Druid (Adrian) good to catch up with you and your Bro last weekend. Look forward to a future run out.
Anyway round here I'd say its youths in hatchbacks smoking dope to keep an eye out for. Their observational skill are poor at the best of times.
At weekends in Matlock it's the bring it out in the dry riders who have to impress/demonstrate their prowess for handing a fast bike with little skill. Love to see actual figures but Ambulance rate definitely increased when weekend and more so when sunny. Matlock Bath place to avoid if you really love bikes.

A while back one group of riders (following their lead rider) attempted to change lanes on the highway, only to find the other lane was already occupied by a different group of riders (HD also, and from the same club). The merge worked out badly with the lead bikes going down and then like dominos the rest went down too. No helmets either, not so good.

Those Co2 activist, self righteous look at me ive for a 1k bike tossa's believe they have the rite to ride anywhere anyhow they like. They believe the road users owe them a piece of the tarmac.
Thier two abreast road policy whilst wobbling up a hill makes me hope they fall into a vat of acid. Dont even start me on the ones in London who think a traffic light is something to make room for a convoy of cyclists who deserve to get past everyone waiting for the said lights to change. Red meens go Green meens pull into the middle of the road and raise fist . Yellow meens ride faster ,up the pavement if nessassary, whilst sticking thier rubber encased arseholes in the air so everyone in/on a motor vehical can vomit .
Get cyclists off the road they are a danger and a huge anoyance . Just because they think they are saving the polar bears with thie eco bullying dosnt meen they are worth ****.
Anyway who cares about polar bears when it meens I dont have to put the heating on as much . Burn cyclists and create more C02 so more polar bears die and the temperature goes up in England where it matters . Bring on global warming so we all get more riding time.

God yes.
Damn place is lousy with em. In the states they'd have you brought up on cruelty charges for the amount of open space they've got for those damn things around here, yet the town if full of em and they exercise the things on the streets. Though admittedly the only problem with horses when it comes to motorcycles is the massive amount of used hay they leave in slippery piles all over the place. Me, I get fined if I put the wrong kind of plastic in the recycle bin, meanwhile they're shitting in the streets.... hardly seems a fair turn

They are like they are in a trance, and oblivious to everyone on the road, be it another cage or a motorcycle. If I see a cell phone in their hand, I move away from them, almost by reflex, or it could be, the will to survive? Being aware of your surroundings is a good thing, and has some measure of survival value.

Years ago it was Volvo driving hat wearing pipe smokers that were the evil ones trying as hard as they could to kill us. They morphed into Barber jacket wearing 4x4 drivers taking kids to school or spotty faced corsa drivers with more stereo than engine. The latest incarnation is the twat who cannot bear to be alone so has to talk and text while stearing with their knees and closing off any gap a bike can filter through, and if we do manage to get to the front they then have the cheek to try and out accelaerate us. As for the horses and cyclists, they get in our way and we are at fault, whats that all about. I pay to use the roads they dont so get off it For all other road users, thank you.
