I think I'll walk away from that one... I don't want to be responsible for yet another innocent thread going completely sideways!
And welcome, Ronnie!

| | Posted : 15 Mar 2012 - 06:37 Post title : Re: Triumph Newby (Re: Fordster) | | | Been awhile since I visited the forum, but since a recent reply mentioned a Tardis and I'm watching Dr Who on bbc amer, what the hell. If the 1600 Bird hadn't grabbed my attention 2yrs ago I probably would have saved some cash and bought a used Kaw Vulcan as they are pretty awesome cruisers, however I got the 1600 "SE" and for the most part do not regret the decision. My SE is approaching 12k miles and has been very enjoyable. I regularly get 45 mpg and it accelerates like a raped ape. Fortunately my dealer is pretty good, as they've replaced the wiring harness due to multifunction switch malfunction, replaced windshield due to Triumph logo touching/wearing off on back of plexiglas (although new shield has mini cracks at bolt loc), in addition to recall repairs for abs and fender bolts, not to mention new thermostat gaskets.
Aside from these beta test issues, the bike runs great and I love leaving HD's (most of them) in my wake. This is my second Triumph (first was a 1200 Trophy). I've owned 3 HD's (2 sporty's and a FLT shovel head), 2 Suzuki's ( gs750t, gs1100e), a yamaha 920 virago, my first bike a 450cl honda, oh and I also still own a Italian bike, 1100 jackel Moto Guzzi. I still love the Guzzi, however for the long haul the TBird is far more comfortable and gets slightly better milage.
I'm 53 yrs old and have been riding since I was 21. Keep the shiny side up!

The camera was knocked off the work bench and the batteries scattered all over the floor.
I picked it up and reloaded batteries and took a series of pictures of the conversion from OEM to bobbed.
It was only after I left and download the camera to the computer I discovered the date had been FUBARED and then there was nothing I could do with the down loaded pictures because they couldn't be retaken.
But I did correct the date in the camera and all is well with all the rest of my photo's since!
You cant believe the razzing I took on the Shadowriders forum about the date!

You too! Get that new shield replaced before the warranty runs out. I had the exact same problem and had to figure out the reason myself. It was assembled improperly at the factory. There are supposed to be 2 bushings in the top 2 holes on either side of the bracket. The factory only used one bushing in each of the holes. Only using one in the top two holes doesn't hold the plexi out far enough from the crossbar, hence the scraping on the black crossbar shield. Also, since the missing 2 bushings hold the shield at the radius it was intended to be installed, the missing bushings put a different bend (radius) on the plexi causing stress it wasn't intended to handle, hence the cracking at the bolt holes and it probably also has issues with removal and replacement of the so called quick release windshield. The bottom 2 holes on either side only have one bushing,by the way.
Call Pete 678-854-2010 at Triumph and tell him the same idiot that mis-assembled Mike's shield did yours, but yours is under 12 months old so they owe you a new windshield. Even though they screwed it up, they wouldn't do anything for me because it was just over 12 months old. Act quickly! And I'd love to hear what Pete has to say to you.
If you want a MUCH better shield cut to any height or width, and tinted or not, and cheaper, go to: Link
It's made out of Lexan rather than plastic.
