| | Posted : 07 Mar 2012 - 07:13 Post title : 3rd time lucky ? New Sticky idea | | | I've posted this twice already in the last few weeks, I'm suggesting we have a Sticky for parts from other bikes both Triumph and non-T that fit our bikes, such as Rocket tank badges, Harley lights, Bonnie bars etc.
We could also include instructions/hints on what needs to be modified to " make it fit"
Any support for this ?

Cheers,

It seems that unless your idea is narrowed a bit, we'd have one thread with every item anyone adds to their bird that isn't on the official Triumph Thunderbird list of 100+ accessories, or one of the maybe 10 items that are specifically built for the tbird by aftermarket companies. Currently we use 4-5 forums to accomplish that same thing, so I'm not sure how this would all work.
If we were to do something like that and it was successful in getting folks to participate I think you'd end up with something just as difficult to find things in as searching the whole forum. I wonder if it might be more beneficial to try and push folks towards putting posts "how to" area after they've posted their "check out my cool mod" post in the lounge (or where ever it first comes up). That way the majority of the discussion on the project is contained in the original post and then they can post a more technically focused post in the "how to" section for long term assistance to those that might be wanting to do something similar.
Of course there is also the chance that I am misunderstanding what you are suggesting....

Thatch, I don't understand your comment, I thought I had been very clear, ... I'm suggesting a thread that allows people to post a message to illustrate where they have successfully added a part from any bike (including the current and past Triumph range) to their Thunderbird, or knows by experience that it will definitiely fit, or how it can be modified to fit. This could potentially be an unlimited number of mofifications, I don't understand what it has to do with the 100+ official accessories or ~10 aftermarket pieces.
I don't think this is particularly a sticky for the Lounge, ... I'm suggesting that this sticky could be added to the Accessories forum, it would allow people in the same way as they do with all the other stickys to look in one place for a particular reason, . ie the video sticky or the photos sticky.
If nobody else thinks this is worth doing then fine, no big deal just an idea.

New Sticky idea (Re: sprint5t) | | | Just giving this a little thought (about a minute, for the moment) my initial thoughts are: Say for instance we create a "This also fits" sticky thread, how will that really differentiate from the accessories (not list) section (they all supposedly fit)? Also, assuming we narrow down the definition, there are hundreds of threads in the past that could potentially fall into either or both categories, thus just causing confusion (as Thatch already mentioned). We would perhaps also need to include if it fits "with" mods or "without" mods. I fully understand the potential usefulness of your suggestion. In the first instance I am of the opinion that this idea may need to be developed a little.
Just my thoughts on the matter. What say you all?

Agreed. I don't think I've done a damn thing in there even though I've done a few things that probably should be.
Think there might be a way to push that section more? Some sort of incentive to get people posting in there....I mean other than making sure Nars buys another bird (since he did quite a few of those)

Seriously though. After something has been discussed to the last finite detail in the normal posts and threads, it should be posted in the 'how to' section. I have found it to be a great file for know how. Even just the simplest things posted on there so that those with little maintenance knowledge can have some referance to work by. If someone manages to find a set of levers, it can be talked about and then all details, links and fitting info can simply be posted there - it seems so simple to me.
