I took my Bird in for it's 18K mile service and much to my surprise the mechanic advised me that the belt was "wearing weirdly" and needed replacement. I had noticed some infrequent chirping which I put down to dust on the belt as the roads out here in the desert have lots of dust and grit on them. Apparently there was excessive wear on the belt and the mechanic was able to persuade Triumph to give me a new belt as a gesture of goodwill even though my bike is out of warranty. I paid for installation but have no complaints as I feel I was well treated by Triumph.

I have not been diligent in keeping the belt clean but will from now on.

Has anyone else had to replace a belt with less than 20K miles on it ?

I never saw the damaged belt and the mechanic wasn't there when I picked the bike up today.

I will give him a call next week and ask for more details

I've been having belt chirp problems for nearly 6,000 Ks of the 16,000 the bike has on it. The dealer is now asking for a replacement under warranty from Triumph.

I'll ask to take a photo of the old belt if I can.
