I am considering fitting a Healtech Gear Indicaor, The Thunderbird model number is GPDS-TO1 RD. Healtech tell me it is just plug in! However you have to connect 1 wire via a wire tap connector to a power source that is "Key Activated ". I imagine the plug in connector must be direct inot the ECU plug. I have not been able to source a wiring diagram .Can anyone tell me the colour of a wire that would be active once the key is on.

Here's a link to my write-up when I installed mine last year...

GIPro DS Series (Gear Position Indicator) Installed ~ Dash (Almost) Complete!

It's simple to install... you just have to find a nice piece of open road without too much car traffic (should be easy in Oz!) to "train" it... procedure is pretty simple, too. It's all in my write-up/photos in the link above.

I gotta tell you guys alittle story. On both of my last two machines, both full dressers, was a gear indicator light.

The first machine had an numbered indicator which told me what gear I was in,1 thru 5.

The second machine had a GREEN LIGHT only to signify when I was in overdrive [5th gear].

But even though I had these indicators on both machines,I STILL found myself lookin right at em when driven, and STILL hunting for the next higher gear which, naturally, wasn't there.DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH!!!!! lol So what's the point.lol lol Even with the added 6th gear light on your Bird, you're STILL gonna be lookin for 7th,8th,9th,and so forth, which ain't there.lol lol Dave!!!

Dave!!!

an indicator to tell you you are in top would be good.
normally a check on the speed and revs tells you
but i have been one of those riders that has tried for 7th a few times

as for the gear indicator, i was considering adding one after narsiscos thread but a lad i know has had his unlearn a few times and has to keep teaching it.
not sure if that is a common issue.

I fitted one to my Tiger 955i, 4 years ago. What a palaver! What with faulty displays & sensors, hysteresis and crap service, I gave up and successfully demanded my money back (at the NEC Show - I think they paid me to go away) It was an Acumen

Weird... mine never gave me a stitch of problems, ever. It worked reliably from the very second I got it "trained". It was very nice to see that little blue indicator out of the corner of my eye as I was banging through the gears in the mountains/twisties, too.

Obviously, this is not a device for you hardcore "true believers" and no one's gonna force you to go out and install one. But, please don't pee the the Wheaties of those that like the idea and want one.

I've got my third one on order for my KTM (oh... didn't you blokes know this is now a KTM forum? )

I always thought that there should be an electrical interface to the ECM that would do everything we "need" for our riding pleasure, well, if only this would fit the Thunderbird, I would have to buy one.

Gear indicator, compass, battery voltage, turn signal, engine temp, tachometer, speedometer and a programmable shift light (different face designs to choose from and the APP is free from iTunes.

WOW and all on your phone Link

Hi there.

I have a Healtech Gear indicator fitted on my new Thunderbird. It wasn':t working when I bought it. Triumph dealer tried to get it to work but failed.

So I read the manual and all that was wrong was that no one had ever calibrated it properly. I have not pulled the wiring about but I know that one cable is plugged directly into the ECU socket flying lead. The power source on my bike is taken froma live feed taken off the rear light. That is a live feed when you turn the ignition key. It was really simple to calibrate/program the uint. I remember I had to clean out the memory by turninmg the key on and off six times. Then the unit had to "learn" the gears again. I chose a quiet sunday and a straight bit of road and you just ride it in first whilst the display flashes then it moves to asking for second gear and you move up until it flashes for 3. And so on. It learns each gear . You must go all the way up to sixth gear. then it double flashes and it is then working. It extremely useful for a beginner like me and it changes instantly you change gear both up or down. It also shows neutral.

Where/How did you mount the display for the gear indicator?

I have done 2 fit outs, one on My Bike and one on My Mates over the back fence and in both cases we mounted it on straight on the back of the Front Brake Master cylinder.being very pedantic it took me over an hour to fit mine however the second one was done in about half the time and that included having to replenish the body with some of the much needed "Amber Fluid". The Display has very thin back to back tape and it is just a matter of loosening the RH hand grip off so that you can feed the GiPro wireing down between the Master cylinder and the Handlebars.

This pictrue show the mounting of the Gipro Display on the Brake Master cylinder and you can see underneath the handlebar the small wiring loom cable tied to the RH switch gear wiring loom.
