(Re: BritishCustoms) | | | Druid, I saw your question and believe the UK has the same rules as the rest of Europe. So removing the cat would mean the bike doesn't match the COC (certificate of conformity) and would therefore be illegal. Meaning in case of accident insurance company's have the right to refuse payment. (of course only if they find out and if they are searching a reason because the amount is high, permanent injury or death)

As per the insurance issue, I can' speak to that. While that would be possible in the states I've not heard of something like that happening (on something as small as exhaust). The closest experience I have is with working with a guy in England who was working on a cobra kit car who had to pass a 'super inspection' (well beyond the scope of a normal inspection because it was a kit) and watching him go through mounting all sorts of equipment so that he could pass inspection, then stripping it all off the same day when he came home. I then went to a meet with him and this was the norm. I know if and when I return to Europe I'll be prepping for the inspection and then returning it to riding condition.

Cheers DV . What about MOT testing ? Would we have to reinstall the box for the emissions test? Im guessing your rules are the same in Belgium.
Thanks for the heads up Thatch btw. The sooner I dont have to check two forums the better.

Now to your question , if MOT is required you would have to comply to the COC, thus cat in place. However, in reality it happens they don't see/know/care about a change that has been made.
I mentioned if MOT is required because, how strange it may sound, in Belgium there is no MOT for a bike. Only cars and bigger. Belgium is paradise for bike modders (in Europe that is). The US is of course even better

Well we dont need one for 3 years on new vehicals . Im just thinking about 2012 . But I spose I could take a chance keep the box and go for it.
Yeah I think I will hehe.
