So doing the bars (powder coat) in black but I can't figure out if I want to go satin black to match the engine and stuff or gloss black to match the paint on the bike, would appreciate your take on this. Not sure if I want to do the crash bars but thinking about it???

Satin, I had a set that were Gloss Black. I thought they looked cheap, but that's none of my business

Satin black for the bars to match the engine. Keep the gloss black for the tins and side panels.

I'm sure I lost already, but being a product of the 60's, I say LEAVE 'EM CHROME!

LOL I am also a product of those times and do fancy chrome but 1" bars on a larger bike just look silly to me, pretty sure triumph thinks so to that whey they stepped them up on the LT and commander, not sure why they did not do it on the newer storm, think they missed the boat on that one, I think in my case (a storm) the bars will just look nicer in black and not so "tiny"

I think what ever finish he risers are will determine what the bars should be. It would look silly to have flat black risers and then gloss black bars IMO. Then you just need to do the crash bars, headers, mufflers and that silly chrome clutch cover they put on the storms. I reckon the new one on the night storm looks great but not sure how much they would cost. If your unsure then a cheap test would be to grab a can of flat black plasti dip and give t a spray. If you don't like it then peel it off and start again. Post some picks when you get it done. I'm thinking of getting a storm when I sell my Bird and blacking out everything so I'll be interested to see how she looks. Cheers Dan

Satin powder coat, definitely. I get complements all the time!!

Excluding tins (mentioned earlier) like gloss fenders, tank, side covers...do "bolt on" parts in satin (definitely crash bars) to match the frame and motor. The combination will create a two tone black affect that's awesome!

For Thunderbirds, if you powder coat the front lower shock tubes...do the rear belt pulley too.

And Storms, respect your Elders.

R.e. the above pic of the 1600 and on a completely unrelated note, I really need to get short TORs. Looks great. To bring it around to the OP, it seems to me like short TORs should be standard on the Storm...would seem to align with its more lean, mean styling.

Sorry, didn't mean to neuter it...I didn't catch that it had the BB kit in it. I'd better be careful what I say about it...it might come over and beat up my 1600.

It's all fun. But I'd give my left Tor to cruise with a few Thunderbirds :D ...so if anybody's interested, think Laughlin River Run in April!

What's the fascination with Laughlin? Maybe you should take another look at Oatman as a destination.
But - sorry, off topic here, should stick to the subject because black bikes matter.
