| | Posted : 21 Oct 2015 - 14:18 Post title : Bloody Crooked Stealerships | | | So took the bike in some time ago to have it put on the dyno, with PCV on it. Got the bike back been riding it for a while and its ok but did not really notice much if any difference in the overall performance of the bike. I never did save the dyno run to be honest with you so about a month ago I decided I should do that. Went in to save the map and started looking at it closer thinking, hey this seems pretty familiar to me. Then I opened up the map you get from Dynojet and low an behold with the exception of a few cells in the 80-100% throttle range the fuel map is exactly the same! so I ring them up and ask WTH, how can this be? I am told that in order to save people money and time on the dyno they use a base map to start with (usually dnojets) and then they tune it to 13.1 or as close as they can get throughout the rpm and throttle ranges. But they are still the same? Different bike, location, pipes, filter and so forth and with the exception of a few cells they are exactly the same? the map that you get from dynojet are not even set (AFR) at 13.1. Does this seem right to you guys?

And if they changed your fuel map and not your AFR tables then you really got hosed. Since you have an AT-300 what they should have done was turn off the AT300 and populated the AFR Tables from the Dyno runs. When done turn on the AT300 and let it trim the the fuel tables to meet the AFR targets. Did you check the AFR Tables after the Dyno work?

All these mods you guys are performing on your scooters to increase power[atleast here in the States] is all well and good. However,as everyone knows by now,all the Birds,as well as all the other make and model motorcycles sold here in the States, and just like all the cars and trucks, are now equipped with that ALDL [assembly line diagnostic link] port under the side cover for trouble shooting.Eventually, that same ALDL port will be used for emissions testing purposes, just like the cars and trucks have to do, in addition to trouble shooting the system. And when that happens [and it's coming] what are ya gonna do when the bike FAILS the emissions test and they tell ya you have X amount of days to fix it and bring it back for retesting, and if it doesn't pass then, you won't be able to drive it on the road, legally, because your vehicle is POLLUTING the environment. Personally,I think it's a bunch of shit but it's comin. It's called revenue. So it might be somethin to think about. The EPA is out there just looking for people with altered vehicles and jammin it up their asses with these huge fines. Just food for though!

The amount of emissions from motorcycles is so minimal that AZ (rationally so) has determined there is no need to test. This "sky is falling" crap about the effects of emissions from motorcycles is so overblown, its disgusting! Don't think it's inevitable. Will not happen here.

This business with VW has got the attention of the environmental lobby who are seemingly demanding that all vehicles have simple plug in analytical ports that tell all.

Not 100% certain, but I recall that nationally, counties with less than 200,000 population used to be exempt from smog inspections. Naturally, that could change with the stroke of a liberal pen. Also, that may not prevent the states from inspecting that all the parts are present. (i.e. cat!)

no I did not have the AT300 at that time, but regardless the so called "tune" they put in was really nothing more than what I already had for free.

Take your bike to another tuner that knows what an AT300 is and have the AFR tables populated from the Dyno runs. Only then will you have a really accurate tune and even more so once the AT300 is turned back on and it starts trimming your fuel tables per the AFR.

there are not that many around here that will work on triumph believe it or not, mostly harley, there is one guy that is supposed to be good but i do not know anyone that have used him, i think there is only about 3 shops in this area that actually have dyno set up for bikes allot of car stuff. Very frustrating though. the dealership got back to me after i sent them some e-mails from Chris over at dynojet saying that tune was pretty much the exact same tune, they have agreed to run it again for me if i want in the spring, not sure but if all else fails i will do that and ask to be present when they do it.
hey daycruiser, i know you have been working on yours some more, how is it going?

I have no plans to do anything else to my Bird except tires and brakes. I have the Valkyrie now which is where all my attention has been for the last few months. Sent the seat off to California for the new Russell Seat to be built, have a new Clearview windshield to install next week and some minor electrical work to finish. Also sending out the Forks to be completely rebuilt and RaceTech modified. Should be done with the Valk by Xmas.

No, this is my third Russell Daylong seat, so I know what to expect. This seat won't be back until close to Thanksgiving.
