I learned this after reading an article about Les Graham (1930-50s Brit racer)..."ride safe", a lot more meaning.

You've must have a lot of time on your hands finding and watching these videos. trouble is I end up watching them and getting nothing done. Keep em coming.

That TT circuit is so cool and the dangers are everywhere. I love the the fact that in this bullshit PC world we can still have lairy stuff like this ... the participants all know and understand the risks and then throw everything at it ... awesome! Long may it continue.

Rich ... it shouldn't really be too sombre. The fallen riders are celebrated by all. There are memorials and plaques all over the course. Many, when the racing is over, spend the time and effort to stop and pay their respects. The atmosphere around the place during race events is truly special. I just can't comprehend how, in this day and age, they get away with staging such and extravaganza ... it all seems a bit 'wing and a prayer' where caution is thrown to the wind. There is, of course, huge emphasis on safety but everyone knows that once racing commences the real cost of taking part changes from the 'unique experience' to ... maybe quite literally, 'once in a lifetime'. I've spoken to many riders and they are all totally aware of the consequences of a mistake ... there are no gravel traps, run-offs, air fences etc of a modern track ... just unforgiving hard landscape and infrastructure waiting to receive the next victim. You'd not catch me doing it ... way too risky. I'll stick to to ad hoc track days for my speed thrills.

I hear you Anthony, it's a whole different mindset.
