As many of you know I was making the trip back to the US recently. Well, I've completed the move with both bikes sitting happily in my garage. The even managed to move them without damaging them this time, so no free paint job this time.

The bird has been off the road for a number of reasons for over a year. Yesterday I finally got the replacement battery I needed and got everything cleaned up, checked and back out on the road for the first ride in a long time. I had forgotten how good she sounded. The nice thing about being in coastal Georgia is that riding season is damn near 12 months of the year so I should have plenty of time to get both the bird and the scrambler out on the roads.

Now, all that said I did have some odd squeaking noises during the ride. At first I thought it might just be from sitting and that once I rode a bit it would clear up. It didn't. It was much more common to hear it while accelerating and usually would drop off as soon as I let off the gas. I remember some folks having some issue with the cush drive on the bike and others having a rear bearing issue. I would think the bearing would make noise regardless of acceleration (though I suppose the load pressures might be a bit different and cause the difference) but I'm not really sure. All that said, it could be simple belt issue too I suppose. The acceleration throwing the belt to the outside, or tightening up just enough to initiate a squeak. All possibilities I suppose. Any guesses?

Anywho, the ride was good regardless. Now I just have to start thinking about getting all my vehicles registered. I can run them on my US Army Europe regs for 90 days. Shouldn't be a problem for the bird or the BMW, but I'm still wondering how the Moto Morini discussion will go down....

Good to hear A few miles north and you'll need a duck. Lots of good places in Savannah, there's a brew pub down town that I liked when we stayed there and don't be a stranger.

Welcome back, Thatch!

So as you sort yourself down South, and us northerners prep for winter and enjoy the last few good weeks of riding, you'll need to start planning your ride up to Bennington, VT the weekend after Memorial Day!!! Would be great to meet you, along with the rest of the Bird dudes that make the trek (albeit from a shorter distance than you'd be riding up!)!

Try rubbing alittle candle wax on the teeth and both sides of the belt to see if that will stop the squeaking noise.

Good to see you got settled back home. Sounds like a belt issue. a few tweaks hear and there should sort that out.

Yeah, "micro" adjustments...very sensitive.

Thanks for the thoughts on the noise. I'll see if I can do a bit of adjustment on it and see what that does to it. I'm really not sure how much riding time I'll end up getting over the next few months. I'm back to doing consulting work which is a feast or famine affair, but we shall see. Hopefully I can get some balance to it this time 'round.
