I guess I always thought of it as more sport than touring and never gave it much thought but I sat on it. Even with the "low" seat it was fairly high for me (I'm only 5'7" with a 29 inch inseam) but I think I could handle it. Getting my feet on the pegs is a lot different than on my T-bird with its forward controls. But it sure seems like a nice bike, and compared to my T-bird, it felt really light getting it up off the sidestand. The electronic adjustable windscreen, hard locking and removable luggage, cruise control, heated grips and seat plus the higher horse power really got me thinking. Of course the price tag is close to $20,000 MSRP, but I now can't wait for the dealer's open house day when I can demo this bike. What a great combination it would be to have the T-bird for relaxed riding around town, and the Trophy for long distance trips. I just wonder about passenger comfort, and about whether or not I really am too short for this bike. Anyone have real life experience with the Trophy that would share their thoughts?

Great bike, great handling, effortless engine (although noisy) lots of bits to fiddle with and 'modes' to mess with. I am 5'10'' and even with the wife on I found it top heavy and unstable when stopped or foot moving. Great and nimble in traffic - adjustable screen is fantastic- could ride open face at 100mph and still hear the radio ( the theme from the Dam Busters was playing - it was a British moment indeed) Wife loved the seats but I felt cramped and got a bit restless on the motorway - felt like I was always needing to slide back up the seat to save my nads getting crushed. All in all a great bike - but soulless. We swapped back over with the Tbird and the thought of ever owning a Trophy was gone as soon as we pulled off the forecourt of the dealer. If I had both I guess I would clock a few miles up on the Trophy but not half as many as I would on the tBird.
Hope that helps.

(Re: vito) | | | I havent ridden one Vito, so cant comment on that, but by all accounts they are the best touring bike out there, and when fully equipped they are still about 40kgs lighter than your T/Bird you could handle it,without a problem. go the SE and give us some pics Dermot

The difference between that and a 'Bird is so much as to be incomparable. Totally different riding experience. Only you'll know if it's for you.

(Re: KingOfFleece) | | | I have a friend of mine who is the same height as us pretty much I am 5ft 8 with a 30" inseam, he bought a very similar bike but a BMW thinking the same type of stuff (he had a speedmaster) on our trip through the mountains he dropped that bike 5 times during slow maneuvers, like the trophy it is considerably more top heavy then our thunderbirds. I think on the highway with not much city type stuff they would be fun, when it rained he never even got wet! but he finds he does not enjoy it as much around town and is re-thinking the buy. Having said that, if you can have two bikes, then go for a spin and see what its like, it sure is a nice looking bike that's for sure.
