| | Posted : 22 Sep 2015 - 19:27 Post title : I may have to sell my bike....but.... | | | Maybe theres a way to keep from doing so. The subletter of my place is moving and it looks like the only places i can find that i can afford aside from apartments which i flat out refuse to live in are guest houses like i am in now. Problem is none of them seem to have garage parking or even a car port, just street. So i have one option....finding a covered place to park it resonably cheap and not too far away.
The reason i posted is to find out what you guys know about storage places. They seem expensive even for a small area. Does anyone else do this or have any ideas about places that rent for storage or for the purpose of housing a vehicle. Just looking for any advice/ideas you may have because if there are no reasonable options like this i will be selling the bike within a month or 2. I was hoping to keep it till i die if i could, now it looks like unless i die soon that ain't likely to happen.

Well, thanks all. I guess i just have to look but so far the $ is just too much considering there will be many months out of the year i wouldn't ride it. Just have to see where i end up first i guess, then if i'm out of luck i'll have to leave it on the street at least long enough to get it sold.

For one, I need to have a permanent garage type structure and preferably with room to do at least the normal maintenance or i can't afford the bike in the first place. I put a tire on it and the labor is $30 having them just put the tire on the rim. If they did the whole job, IE remove the wheel and reinstall it they charge a fortune. I can't afford the maintenance on this bike unless i do it myself.

In places like NY/NJ and CA you can pay over $100 per month for a small unit. Our bikes our almost 100" in length so you will have to overpay to get the 9' length you need AND you have to find a unit in walking distance. Sheesh. But sometimes an outdoor unit that is not air conditioned will be substantially cheaper. Good luck. I know you love your bike and it will work out

(Re: satch1961) | | | That would be a crime for you to have to get rid of your Tbird for the sake of a couple of sq meters. I guess that is one of the shitty things with having to live in a major city. Although I have never come across that problem I did leave myself short of a place to keep my bike last year when I rented off the very place I kept it. I have no garage at home but have space to house a couple of hundred bikes - and managed to evict myself from it. Luckily I had room to build a bike house and as a friend of mine has the same problem I let him keep his there too ( rent free of course ). I would have extended that offer to you if you ever felt the need to move to Yorkshire.
I really hope you find the right place for yourself and your loved one.
