My missus convinced me to take her to the Kop Hill hill climb today. Never done that before. So I fired up the Super Tenere and off we went. Just so happens a friend of ours was running his Cobra ... it's a 5.4 small block. The event was bloody fantastic they threw every conceivable type of car and bike up that hill. From an 80 year old 24 litre aero engined antique Napier Railton to a 2015 Merc AMG SLS and everything in between. Hundreds of beautiful and cherished motors being shown off and used. I got to sit on a Sun Villiers engined bike that was 101 years old ... How cool was that! This whole event is based on charity and all the organisation is on a volunteer basis ... you'd think that might be a problem but in fact it was superbly orchestrated because of the passion of everyone involved. Will I go again next year ... absofuckinlutely! One of the best spontaneous days out I've had for a long time. I'll put some pics up tomorrow ... had too many beers to do it now.

I was about 20, 23 i guess when i went up one of those insane hills. It was so steep I have no idea how i got the balls to do it. But i had a yamaha 360 MX back in the 70's and we used to go out to the high desert and forests and ride in designated areas. So there were some hill climbs that were worn away and this one almost no one ever went up. I soon found out why. Not sure why i determined it was even possible, but I got a running start and only got about 1/2- 2/3 of the way up and i swear, I aged 30 years on the way down ! As i recall it took me forever to get the bike back down and i don't think i rode it. I just remember being stuck on that hill wondering how the hell i would get the bike back down when it looked scary as hell from where i was to even walk down let alone with a bike. Young dumb and full of.....

Sounds like a real good day out, the smell of fumes and adrenalin pumping would be my kind of thing

You'd have absolutely loved this ...

Here's a selection of fun pics. All the machines were run up the hill. The owners were from all walks of life and all seemed to have time to sit and chat about their passion. The air was full of the smells associated with old machines and power.

Enjoy.

Some of the wonderful old two wheelers ... just a few as there were a couple of hundred.

I'll do some of the cars later.

Oh well if you insist!

The Nor Vin is a very special bike ... I could happily give that a home.

Here's our friends Cobra ... my missus (stood by it) wants me to get something similar. I'd rather have a truck TBH

Check out the 24ltr Napier ... and they had a wall of death ... last in the UK apparently.

Must be a different type of "hill climb" on this side of the pond. As I remember the ones I went to in the '70s, they were dirt, and about a 50-60 degree incline.
NO car would have made it! Incidentally, the best ones in the day were TRIUMPHS! 650/750 outfitted with knobby tires and stripped of any dead weight. Often upon reaching the pinnacle, many bikes would flip over backward. Most never made it that far. This guy had power to spare.

Love to see a picture of your hill!

The ride may be fun, but in the Great Scheme of things, it really is about the destination! John 3:16

It's now an event on a black topped public road. They close it of course. It's about three quarters of a mile long rises 304 feet in 3,848 feet, with a gradient of 1 in 4 at its steepest. It's not the challenge with this thing it's about having a crack. My mate reckoned that when you get a powerful car thrashing up the hill it all gets a bit lairy and sideways on the damp areas under the trees.

There's a few YouTube vids of previous years events on the old interspherewebnet.

Great pictures and amazing machines, both car and bike. Thanks for posting. I would love to see an event with that caliber of machines.
