Did my best to search here (2 years at a time), but only found one relevant post confirming the same oil capacities I have listed in my service manual:
6.0 liters (6.34 qts.) dry
4.2 liters (4.43 qts.) oil and filter change
4.0 liters (4.22 qts.) oil change only

Question is, where's the other 1.8-2.0 liters of oil? That's around 2 quarts.
Seems like an awful lot of oil to go missing, no? Gearbox drains with engine oil, doesn't it? Could that a typo?
(Other two specs are spot-on.) Curiosity has got me.....

Since the drain plug is in the bottom of the crank case and I keep my bike perfectly level when changing the oil and filter,[HOT] allowing it to drain for a good 10-15 minutes, and putting 4 qts. and 20 some odd oz.[I think it's 24 oz.] back in,then starting and running it for 5 or 10 minutes, shutting it off ,allowing it to set for another 5-10 minutes before checking the level on the dip stick, I would say that it's probably a typo error.BUT!!! Ya also have the middle gear to consider where the oil can NOT drain from,so it's possible that it may very well take the full 6 qts. IF the motor trans has been completely torn down.

About one litre resides in the LH side clutch/torque compensator cover.

There is also some oil in the right side cover, presumably to help cool the alternator.

On my trusty old Bonny, primary cover had its own drain as a small amount of oil was trapped there with clutch and primary drive, and gearbox had its own oil.

I can see how clutch might retain a fair amount of oil - I know zip about torque compensators except what I see in the manual - but apparently it seems reasonable to you guys that 2 liters might remain behind after draining oil. Guess that's the price we pay for having a single oil supply shared by motor, clutch, gearbox and all. All the more reason for frequent changes since 1/3rd of it stays behind.

Thank you, gentlemen.
