| | Posted : 17 Sep 2015 - 04:17 Post title : Met a Triumph rep today | | | Today,I happened to stop by my friendly Triumph dealer to announce that I had surpassed the 90,000 mile mark. The owner likes to take a picture of the odometer and yours truly standing next to the machine, then feature it on the front page of his news letter.[I think it's called,"publicity"! ] When I get it in my e mail,I'll forward it to one of you guys so you can post it on here cause I'm not smart enough to do that.
Well,to my surprise,a gentleman from Triumph corporate happened to be there too and also took pictures of the odometer and yours truly, but, forwarded it to Corporate head quarters.WHY??? I don't know!! Then he and I had quite a conversation about my 53 years in the saddle, what I did for a living, the machines I've owned and tinkered with over those years, the pro's and con's of the Thunder Bird, the problems I had with my Bird, and what I did to rectify those problems. We talked for a good two hours. He had mentioned the Bennington Bash,in Vermont, which I guess he had attended and also had a conversation with our very own Jamie from New York about the Thunderbird. We then chatted about the LT and I commented on Triumph going backwards with the spoke wheels and tube type tires.Moto Guzzi also uses spoke wheels, but, uses tubeless tires. The spokes on their wheels are on the outside of the rim which allows them to use a tubeless tire, unlike all the other manufacturers which place the spokes in the middle of the rim, hence they need tubes. If you've owned a bike with tube type tires, and got a flat out in the middle of no wheres, then you know what I'm talkin about and why I won't own another machine that uses tube type tires.
So whether anything was gained or not,I don't know!! But he was a fine gentleman and I believe we had a constructive conversation. Dave!!!

Cool Dave. Maybe Triumph will buy your motorcycle to put on display and give you a new one.

They probably would have reprimanded you and confiscated the bike right there and then like the animal shelter would confiscate a abused animal On a serious note, cast wheels are far better in several respects, but you gotta know Dave that there are a ton of people that much prefer them. So stuff like that ain't going away. I hate spokes myself but they still use em on a lot of cruisers by popular demand. For me, the safety factor alone is paramount regardless of the fact there are 2-3 other reasons i dislike spokes.

I kinda doubt you'll ever see that though. When I croak, the ole lady will probably mount me on it ,then BURY both,me and the bike, together.

Regarding the spokes,I understand that many people prefer em even though they are a royal PIA to keep clean. But if they made spoked wheels like the Guzzi has, then they could also run tubeless tires just like the Guzzi does.

His territory has expanded recently, so I'm hoping he's going to be able to start sorting through the dwindling dealer options some of us are suffering through. Jeff's a great dude, so all you Northeast US boys should count your blessings that we've got someone like Jeff in our corner.
