Went for a walk at lunch and past the spot where I park my bike (lots of other bikes park in the same spot). I look over and there is a guy in his early 50's standing there staring at my bike. I walk up to him and say "Yeah, it's my favourite bike here as well." Had a bit of a talk with him about the Thunderbirds before I let on that it was in fact my bike.

He's been off bikes for the last 15 years and is thinking about getting one again. He was thinking about something along the lines of a Vstrom or similar, but saw my bike and is now reconsidering. I recommended that if he's been away from bikes for that long that a Vstrom or even a Bonneville/Scrambler would be a better bike to get back into the groove, and then look at moving up to a bigger machine. I also gave him a line on a couple of good local riding courses that he should look into if he does get a bike again.

Everywhere I go or park this bike, it always attracts attention, and I've met some really nice people as a result.. much more so than any other bike I've owned. Gotta say that I don't ever get tired of it. I've never been a bike snob (ok, I do constantly pay out on my Harley-riding brothers ), and I find that the Thunderbird draws riders of all makes/models/types. That makes me happy.

Cheers,
Ian
